Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Human Resources Officer at SMG Dry Port, located at Bond Road, Banjul, The Gambia. In this position, you will lead all HR-related functions for the company, from recruitment and compliance to employee relations and payroll. You will play a crucial role in supporting SMG Dry Port's rapid growth and helping establish an engaged, motivated workforce. This is an opportunity to build the HR department from the ground up, ensuring that our team thrives in a dynamic and expanding business.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Lead the recruitment process, including creating job descriptions, conducting interviews, and selecting candidates.

  • Ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires by facilitating orientation and training programs.

Employee Relations & Engagement:

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, addressing concerns, and resolving conflicts.

  • Foster a positive work environment through employee engagement initiatives and communication.

HR Policy & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies in compliance with Gambian labor laws and company objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and employment regulations.

Payroll & Benefits Administration:

  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timely disbursement.

  • Manage employee benefits, including leave applications, attendance tracking, and other relevant records.

Performance Management:

  • Support the performance evaluation process, helping managers and employees set and achieve goals.

  • Assist in handling employee grievances and implementing performance improvement plans when necessary.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain accurate HR records, including employee files and HR databases.

  • Provide general administrative support for all HR functions, including reporting and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in HR or administration.

  • Knowledge of Gambian labor laws and HR compliance requirements.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR management systems.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and handle sensitive information discreetly.
